Initial Preparations before Synchronization
Verify the following items to ensure that your Microsoft Project file and PPM schedule are ready to be synchronized.
- Save your Microsoft Project file locally
Because of the potential for loss of data, ProjectTransit does not support the synchronization of files located on network drives. Microsoft Project files should be stored on a local drive.
- Verify your Microsoft Project file is not read-only
In order for the synchronization process to work properly, your Microsoft Project file cannot be read-only. A read-only file cannot be edited. If a file is read-only, you can change the setting by right-clicking on the file icon and choosing Properties from the menu, then unchecking the read-only checkbox in the Properties dialogue box. Note: Most files set to a read-only state are done so for specific reasons. You should confirm that you can safely change the state of the file before doing so (assuming you did not create the Microsoft Project file).
- Save your Microsoft Project file before any synchronization attempt
You should always Save your Microsoft Project file before clicking on Synchronize. If you created a new file but have not yet saved it as an .mpp or .mpd file, you must do this before you continue. Any changes/edits made to the schedule prior to synchronization should be saved. Failure to do so may cause errors during your synchronization.
- Ensure the PPM schedule is not checked out
ProjectTransit will not detect any Changepoint PPM projects that are checked out. If you want to synchronize with a PPM workspace, but that workspace's project schedule is checked out for editing by another project manager, the workspace will not show up in the list of available workspaces in ProjectTransit. You can check that the project schedule is not checked out by going to the Task Application in the Changepoint PPM workspace. The status of the schedule is displayed at the top of the Tasks List, Outline, or Gantt Chart views.
