Fix Incompatible Microsoft Project Tasks
Before an initial synchronization takes place, ProjectTransit reviews all tasks in your Microsoft Project file to make sure they are fully compatible with PPM.
A Microsoft Project task is incompatible if:
- The task name is blank.
- The task name is longer than 200 characters.
- The task is a split task.
Note: ProjectTransit automatically creates multiple dependent tasks.
- The task is a recurring task.
Note: ProjectTransit automatically creates separate tasks for each instance.
- A milestone in partially complete (> 0% and <100%).
- A milestone has a duration > 0 days.
- A parent milestone has a child task that is not a milestone task.
If a task falls into one of the cases above, it appears in ProjectTransit's
list of incompatible tasks. All tasks in this list must be corrected before you can continue.
For further information regarding best practices, please see ProjectTransit Guidelines.
How to fix incompatible tasks or milestones
Click on an incompatible task to
open a window with details on how ProjectTransit will correct the incompatibility.
Note: you can manually resolve incompatibilities related to the task name. All other incompatibilities
are automatically fixed by ProjectTransit.
- Click the task name to open a detailed list of incompatibilities for the task.
- Correct the incompatibilities:
- Incompatible Task Name - To fix a task name, click the task and type a new name in the name box. If the name is longer than 200 characters, only the first 200 characters are allowed. Any overflow will be ignored.
- Incompatible Split Tasks - The split task will be automatically converted to separate dependent tasks in the Microsoft Project schedule.
- Incompatible Recurring Tasks - The recurring tasks will be automatically converted to separate tasks for every instance of the recurring task. For example, if you have a recurring task that is scheduled to recur every Monday for four weeks, ProjectTransit converts the task into four individual tasks that are not linked in any way.
Note: Manually scheduled Recurring Tasks are not supported in PPM. Please change the recurring tasks to Auto Scheduled in Project before your initial synchronization.
- Partially Completed Milestones - Partially completed milestone tasks will be automatically rounded down to 0% (if less than 50% complete) or rounded up to 100% (if 50% complete or greater). If you do not accept the correction in ProjectTransit, the milestone will be deleted.
- Milestones with Durations Greater than 0 Days - Milestone tasks with non-zero durations will be automatically converted to a duration of 0 (zero) days. If you do not accept the correction in ProjectTransit, the milestone will be deleted.
- Milestones with Non-milestone Child Tasks - Parent milestone tasks with child tasks that are not milestones will be automatically converted to non-milestone tasks. If you do not accept the correction in ProjectTransit, the milestone will be deleted.
- Click OK to accept the changes, or Cancel to reject the changes. If you continue with the synchronization after rejecting changes to incompatible tasks the tasks will be deleted.
Once a task or milestone is corrected, it is removed from the list of incompatible tasks. When all incompatible tasks have been corrected, you can continue your synchronization by clicking Next.
