About Add, Edit, Update and View Panes

The workspace-level PPM applications with views which allow in-line editing also use slide-out panes. this gives you easy access to all the fields you may need or want to include when adding, editing or viewing an item. The Task List also includes an Update pane for updating tasks. You can make bulk edits to selected items or tasks using the Bulk Edit pane. The data in the panes update based on which item you select.

Opening the Panes

How and when a pane opens depends on which view you are in (Task List or Item List) and on what action you take. Clicking the name of an item can open the Edit pane, for example, while selecting multiple items can open the Bulk Edit pane. Permissions

The panes honor PPM permissions: users with appropriate permission can add or edit an item or update a task in a pane, while users without permission cannot. If you open an item for which you only have view permission, the item displays as read-only in the pane or a message displays to tell you that you do not have edit permission.

Using the Keyboard

The panes support not only mouse actions but also many of the same keyboard shortcuts that the Task List and Item List views use. For detailed information, see Keyboard Shortcuts.

Interactions with the Task/Item List

When a pane is open, certain actions result in specific responses. For details, see About Pane and List Interactions.

Note: Because of the way these views work, especially when a pane is open, it is possible to run into issues if more than one user is attempting to make a change to an item. If a user has modified or deleted an item a second user has open in a pane, a message displays, informing the second user that the item has changed and they need to refresh their view before continuing.
