Portfolio Tab View Formats

Portfolio tabs are visible at the global level and display lists of workspaces based on specific workspace types. For most users there is no need to understand when they are using a portfolio tab, but in one visible case a portfolio tab differs from the native Projects tab: A portfolio tab only includes two view formats, List View and Hierarchy View, while the Projects tab has a third, Archived View option. A portfolio tab is a list of workspaces. The workspaces you can see are determined by how the portfolio tab has been defined by your PPM administrator (which workspace types are associated with the tab) and by your permissions to view individual workspaces.

The view format you select impacts the way workspaces on the portfolio tab are displayed. Understanding the impact can help you take full advantage of PPM.

List View—The default, this displays all valid active workspaces as a list, with the sorting and grouping determined by the current custom view. To be a valid workspace, the workspace must be either of a workspace type that is associated with the portfolio tab or a child of one of those workspaces. Because the list is a flat list, you do not have any context for why you are seeing particular workspaces.
Hierarchy View—This option displays valid active workspaces in a hierarchy. Parent workspaces are listed at the top level, with any child workspaces shown in a hierarchy below their parents. To be a parent workspace, the workspace must be of a type that is associated with the portfolio tab. Only workspaces of the associated type(s) are shown as parents. Any child workspaces of those parents are also shown in the view.

Note: Your PPM permissions for viewing or accessing workspaces further filters the workspaces you see and determine which of the valid workspaces you see.
