Capacity Planner - Overview
|
The PPM Capacity Planner is a resource planning tool
designed to give managers (and workspace approvers) the ability to compare workspaces and their resource needs, and to schedule workspaces based on importance and available resources.
Access to Capacity Planner is given by default to PPM users with an enterprise role of Administrator, Executive, Resource Manager or Project Manager. (Your enterprise may further restrict access.) A user with access to Capacity Planner can view resource requirements for all workspaces and requests, including those they are not a member of. For more information on enterprise roles and permissions, see About User Profiles and Enterprise Roles.
The Capacity Planner provides an overview of:
- Workspaces/Requests—The main display of the Capacity Planner is divided into two lists of Unplanned and Planned workspaces and requests. These lists separate workspaces (and requests) into those whose capacity has not yet been planned, and those whose capacity has been planned. The workspaces list any resource requirements defined to complete their work.
Note: The definitions of Planned and Unplanned capacity depend on your organization and processes. For more information, see About Planned/Unplanned Capacity.
- Resource Requirements—A display of resource requirements for the workspaces, broken out over time. Resource requirements listed are those requirements defined for the requests or for workspaces.
- Net Availability—A display of the remaining available hours for each listed resource type.
Hours shown are calculated by taking the total number or resource type hours (determined by the number enterprise users assigned to that type) and subtracting the resource requirement hours listed for the workspaces in Capacity Planner. By default, only Planned workspaces are included in this calculation. For details, see Viewing Net Availability.
Note: Due to the
large amount of information on the screen, the Capacity Planner page display
may take several seconds to refresh.
