Certain settings you define when you create or edit a Workspace
Type are inherited by every workspace of that Workspace
Type.
Important:
If you edit a Workspace
Type and change an inherited setting, you may significantly
impact any existing workspaces of that type.
Inherited Workspace
Type settings include:
- Task History Log
- The Task History Log setting determines whether or not tasks in workspaces will log history to the Task History Log tab of the Task Details.
Clearing this option does not delete any existing task history but no future history is logged.
- Time Range
Definition
- The Time Range Definition determines if workspaces will have
a definite start and end date or are on-going workspaces.
- Hierarchy
Rules
- Hierarchy Rules define where workspaces can be located in
your workspace hierarchy and include whether or not the workspaces can be
parent workspaces of workspaces created from other workspace types.
Hierarchy rules also impact whether or not a workspace type can be associated with a portfolio tab. Only top-level workspace types can be associated with portfolio tabs.
- Portfolio Tabs
- The portfolio tabs the workspace type is associated with determine which workspaces display on each portfolio tab. Changing the association between a workspace type and a portfolio tab will impact what shows up in the portfolio tab. For details, see Workspace Type Hierarchy Rules and Portfolio Tabs.
- External
Billing
- External Billing determines whether or not external rate fields are
visible in workspaces. For details, see Enabling
External Billing for Workspaces.
- Timesheets
- The Timesheets setting determines whether or not workspaces will use
Workspace-level time tracking. If a workspace uses Workspace
-level time tracking,
users enter any time they work against the workspace rather than against
specific workspace tasks. For more information, see About
Workspace-Level Time Tracking.
- Task ETC
auto-update
- Task ETC auto-update determines how manual changes to a task's ETC
impact the task's Planned Work value. For more information, see About
Task ETC Auto-Update.
- Resource Allocations
- Resource Allocation Auto-Approval specifies that resource requests (made using the workspace-level Resource Allocation application) are automatically approved. Workspaces of a type with this setting enabled do not require Resource Manager approval for resource requests. For more information, see About
Auto-Approval of Resource Requests.
- Custom Display
Name (available only when editing a Workspace
Type)
- Custom Display Name defaults to "Default" unless you have
created a concatenated custom field for the Workspace
Type. For details,
see About Auto Workspace
Naming.
- Applications
- The applications you include, exclude, require or disallow for a workspace type impact all workspaces created from that workspace type. If you edit the application list after workspaces have been created, you can impact those workspaces. For example, if you disallow a previously allowed or required application, you may cause the deletion of the application and any associated data from existing workspaces.
