Synchronizing Tasks
Synchronizing tasks is the process of ensuring that all tasks and task data in your Microsoft Project file and PPM project task schedule are the same.
The following task data are synchronized: Task Name, Percent Complete, WBS number, Start Date, Finish Date and Assignees (resources).
There are two types of task synchronization:
- Initial synchronization between Project and PPM
During the initial synchronization ProjectTransit copies all tasks from your Microsoft Project file to your selected PPM project schedule and all tasks in your PPM schedule to Microsoft Project. ProjectTransit does not check for duplicate tasks or task names. Every task is considered an independent task, even if an identical task already exists.
If your PPM project already contains tasks, these tasks are imported (copied) from PPM to your Microsoft Project file. You are given an opportunity to review the tasks and approve their import.
Important: If you choose not to import specific tasks, these tasks are deleted from PPM.

- Subsequent synchronizations of schedule changes
Each subsequent synchronization copies PPM task updates to the Microsoft Project file and any schedule changes from Microsoft Project to the PPM schedule. These changes might include hours worked by assignees, new tasks added by the project manager and changes in existing task data.
Any PPM task updates are copied to your Microsoft Project file. You are given the opportunity to review these changes and approve them before ProjectTransit continues.

Note: In most cases you begin using ProjectTransit with either an empty PPM schedule or an empty Microsoft Project file, and tasks are copied from the established schedule to the empty schedule. If you have tasks in both places they will be copied in both directions.
Important: You should only break schedule synchronization in specific circumstances. Be certain you understand the impact of ending a ProjectTransit schedule synchronization.
For more information, see the Review Settings section.
Synchronization Summary
When a synchronization is complete, a Task Synchronization Summary screen displays. This screen lists all the tasks that have been added, deleted or updated in both your Microsoft Project file and in your PPM schedule.
