Moving Requirements in Capacity Planner

To take advantage of the what-if? capability of Capacity Planner, you can move workspace requirements forward and backward to see how this impacts availability of resources.

To move requirements for a workspace:

  1. Open the Capacity Planner application.
A list of workspaces displays, with unplanned workspaces shown above planned workspaces.
  2. You can move requirements for an entire workspace, or by resource type:
  1. To move requirements for an entire workspace, next to the workspace you want to move, click the Actions icon and select Move forward one <Month/Week> or Move back one <Month/Week>.
The requirements are shifted either forward or back.
  2. To move requirements for one resource type, next to the resource type you want to move, click the Actions icon and select Move forward one <Month/Week> or Move back one <Month/Week>.
The requirements are shifted forward or back.

Note: You can also move requirements by highlighting the requirements row (on the right side of the display) and click-dragging forward or backward.
  3. The totals in the Net Availability section are updated based on how requirements are shifted. This gives you an immediate and clear indication of how a workspace and its requirements is going to impact resource availability, and helps you to choose and schedule workspaces at the most appropriate times.
  4. When you are done, click Save All Changes to save the changes, or Cancel All Changes to cancel your changes.

Until you click Save All Changes, any changes you make in Capacity Planner are limited to your local computer. When you click Save All Changes, the updated requirements are saved (and are accessible in the Resource Allocation application of the workspace). If you want to cancel your changes, click Cancel All Changes.
